HANSON DEEP FRY DAY - Nova 93.7

Two-Thirds of Hanson, Isaac and Taylor, are in town for the “You Pick The Set List” where fans can pick from all six albums.

HANSON | THE FULL INTERVIEW

Between them they have 11 children and naturally we assume there’s a new Hanson coming along. “They certainly have no rights to the name,” the boys quipped.
New-mum Sally got her chance to chat to the boys on the phone, and she wanted to know if the boys could [play earlier because this was a 17 year journey for her, but she goes to bed early due to mum duties.

Hanson in Melbourne Aug 10, 2014 | Photos

When I was in high school and every single girl had posters of Hanson in their locker except me (I was busy listening to No Doubt and Aqua), if someone had have told me that one day I would photograph them, I definitely would not have believed it.
So anyway, last night I photographed Hanson for their Anthem tour at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne. The squeals were almost deafening – I’ve never been to a One Direction or Ed Sheeran concert, but I imagine the crowd sounded the same.
I didn’t stick around to hear Mmm Bop, but I did hear Where’s The Love (the only other song of theirs I can remember hearing in high school). They put on a great show, and for a theatre venue where it’s seating only, everyone was on their feet from the very beginning.
Here’s some of my favourite shots from the gig.

Hanson + supp. from Sion Russell Jones @ The Institute, Birmingham – 7/12/2013

Sixteen years ago I was seriously into a three piece boy band called Hanson. Their debut album was (and I still agree) a perfect pop record. I loved them, probably too much and when I decided to put a car sticker on the rear windscreen of my blue, beat up metro, I was the butt of many jokes and got some real stick for it. And then we come to tonight. Here I am, at the Institute in Birmingham, getting ready (and very excited) to see one of my favourite bands; a band I thought I’d never get to see live.
Sion Russell Jones
Supporting Hanson tonight is Cardiff based singer/songwriter, Sion Russell Jones (pictured above). In front of a packed out crowd, Sion handles his solo performance perfectly; just him and his acoustic guitar. His style is a mix of skiffle and folk. He has an excellent vocal range; at times sounding like Jake Bugg and at times, James Blunt. There’s also a hint of the Silversun Pickups in there too. He’s a total hit with the crowd and is incredibly easy to listen to. He certainly warms up this cold, winter’s night. Highlight of his set was So Long which is a track from his forthcoming album, due out in March 2014.
The excitement and anticipation in the crowd builds rapidly; this is what the crowd, including myself, have really come for. For the first time in quite a while, I don’t feel like the oldest swinger in town. There are no “youngsters” (at least not that I can see) in the audience; here we have a totally packed out room full of diehard fans. As the band hits the stage, I am immediately blown away. “Wow, wow, wow!” I say to my gig buddy, Holly and ten minutes on, that’s still all I can say. However, that really isn’t a review so I pull my iPhone out my back pocket and proceed to take notes.
Taylor Hanson
 (Pictured above: Taylor Hanson)
Hanson are a very close second to the throne when it comes to perfect three part harmony (the King’s being the Bee Gees) and for only three members, they have a HUGE sound! I knew they would be good but Jeez Louise, Hanson are awesome.
Isaac Hanson
(Pictured above: Isaac Hanson)
Stand out tracks include the rocking Fired Up, the fantastic I’ve Got SoulGet The Girl Back and Juliet, all from the bands most recent album, Anthem. The band also showcase some crackers from their 2011 album, Shout It Out, including the incredible, Thinkin’ ‘Bout Somethin’Kiss Me When You Come HomeGive A Little and Carry You There. Just when we thought the band were about to shut up shop for the night, they blasted out the song that everyone was itching to hear, MMMBop. Zac, Isaac and Taylor Hanson’s voices may have dropped a little since 1997 but the song sounds even better than it did all those years ago and, quite frankly, it sends the crowd crazy! In my opinion, the highlight of the set was an absolutely amazing, a cappella cover of the Bee Gee’s hit classic, Too Much Heaven. I never thought anyone could ever cover this well, but seriously, I think Hanson nail it tonight and I actually prefer this version to the original.
Zac Hanson
(Pictured above: Zac Hanson)
So, what a gig eh? Who would have thought I’d be MMMBop-ing away, with one of my best mates ever, to a band I’ve loved for half of my life? Certainly not me. But I did and it was bloody brilliant!

Europe Anthem Tour: Cardiff Opener Artist Announced

That's right, the first opener of the European leg of the Anthem World Tour has been revealed! Sion Russel Jones will be playing at "Solus" in Cardiff on December 6, 2013. Only a week ahead, Cardiff fans, who's excited?!

Mad Zac is back!

A few months ago we saw a side of the sweet, gentle and always smiling Zac that we haven't seen before. It all started in Richmond, VA (Sep 5th) with a beautiful solo performance of him singing "Lullabelle" getting constantly interrupted by a screaming woman in the crowd, and ended up with him stopping in the middle of the song and putting that lady in her place by telling her to shut up. That day we learned that you do not mess with Zac when he's singing, biatch!!

Apparently the two dudes that attended to the show in Charlotte, NC last week weren't aware of that. The story was sort of the same: Hanson was doing a hypnotizing acapella version of "Too Much Heaven" by the Bee Gees when two men thought it would be funny to scream things like "I love you" and "I love you too" while the boys were singing. But this time they didn't stop, they just kept singing and ignoring the jokes coming from the audience. After they sang the last note, it was time for Super-Zac to do his job and save the night! This is what he responded to the screaming men (minute 3:05):

"Everybody...apparently those two dudes really love each other so I wanted to make sure you guys let them come together. Let me say, there is a great spot in the back for them to make out. Thank you very much."

BAM!! EPIC WIN! And he didn't even use a single swear word. That is what we call a classy throwback! And no one can do it better than ZHan. Go Zac, woot!!

Another one bites the...prank?: Hanson pranks David Ryan Harris

And so, we knew it. Hardcore, passionate fans that have attended and/or kept track of the Hanson shows during the years saw this coming, somehow. Because when it is about the last show of a long Hanson tour where a new opener artist ends his journey it only means one thing: prank time! Yes. This time was the time for David Ryan Harris to fall in the trap. Harris has joined Hanson in the past month or so as an opener for the second half of shows of the US/Canada leg of the Anthem World Tour, which ended in Charlotte, NC on November 20th, 2013.

Hanson and his crew could not wait for the last song of the opening act to end when they interrupted the performance by playing a very particular and pretty funny song on every speaker of the venue. As soon as Harris turned around they showed up on stage forming a line while dancing ridiculously throughout the stage. Did we mention that Taylor had a box in his head? See it for yourself below:

No one is safe. Future openers, watch your back!

The Anthem World Tour started in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on July 18th, made its way through USA and Canada from September to November, starts the European leg on December 3rd in Glasgow (UK) and ends on December 17th in Milan (Italy). Click here to see if it hits your city and get tickets now!
